hair4repair
why does everyone who gets a hair transplant have no bangs? There hair is always combed to the side or something. I just wanted to know if it is possible to grow long bangs down to my eyes with a hair transplant. I' m 19 and my hair is kinda thin on top. What would you suggest the best thing to do to get on my way to looking close to Owen Wilson's hair? thnaks Owen Wilson, what i want my hair to look like my hair with flash on http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/1-2.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/2-1.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/3-2.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/sd005.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/sd007.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/sd010.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q303/parkour12/sd011.jpg

Bill - Seemiller
hair4repair, Hair transplant patients can style their hair any way they want, including down showing bangs. The key however, is finding a style that works best for you. At 19 years old with only "kinda thin" hair, you are most likely not a good hair transplant candidate. Consider consulting with a physician about using oral Propecia and topical Rogaine in combination with one another which may help stimulate hair regrowth and slow down or stop future hair loss. Best wishes, Bill
hair4repair
Bill Yeah I' m gonna do that, but I really would like to get a HT so I could grow long bangs. I was just looking at your HT pics Bill, and holy crap nice job!
Senior Member Smoothy Posted July 11, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 11, 2008 Styles differ on what you want that day. You can style anyway you want. Now as far as amount of hair, that will depend on your donor availability which can determine the types of style you can have. Senior Member hatrick Posted July 11, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 11, 2008 at 19 it will be hard for you to find a qualified surgeon who will perform a surgery in regards to the results you wish to achieve. judging from your photos your hair characteristics will make it very hard to achieve owen wilsons hair. while you guys have roughly the same hair color, his hair is thick and dense while yours seem to be thin and not very dense. you dont seem to be receding but you do seem to be experiencing diffuse thinning. based on this, a surgeon would be very concerned about the possibilities of shock loss to your native hair when transplanting donor hair to your recipient area. factor that in with your probability of future loss and you will most likely be turned away. i dont mean to deter you just letting you know what will be on the doctors mind. if your serious consult with a qualified surgeon about what can be achieved. good luck to you. i would recommend getting on finasteride to help stabilize your hair loss. Dr. Timothy Carman
H4R- In general, the principle behind hair restoration that makes it successful is the "artful" relocation of non-DHT sensitive hair from a generally smaller portion of the scalp to an area (generally larger) which contains(ed) hair follicles that are(were) sensitive to the effects of DHT. Part of the art is in being able to create both real and optically apparent density into an area that may still be slowly enlarging (this factor mitigated by finasteride, rogaine) utilizing a finitely limited amount of donor to create a natural looking result. The endpoint that you are seeking (those long bangs) requires hair to be at a density of at least 90-100 FU/cm2. Ask any experienced cosmetologist: one of the first styling solutions to suggest for their clients with thinning hair is to choose shorter cuts, as this gives the illusion ("optical appearance") of thicker, denser hair. When faced with limited donor, and a larger recipient surface area, that goal of 90-100cm2 is just not "do-able" given the laws of supply and demand. In your case specifically, and I realize those photos are taken with a flash, it appears to me that, at 19, you are experiencing quite a diffuse hair loss pattern which is even evident in your donor area. I would recommend, above all other considerations, to strongly consider taking finasteride at 1-1.25mg/day in an effort to stabilize your ongoing loss. The most realistic goal I can see for you would be to maintain the coverage you have now; whether or not a HT procedure is in the cards for you is a decision that, IMO, is best addressed in 5-6 years, a period of time for you that is absolutely necessary to wait given what I can glean from your age, history, and photos submitted. I realize this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I would caution that a little patience at this stage of your life may save you a lifetime of regrets wishing you had been more patient "once upon a time". Hope that helps- Sincerely- Timothy Carman, MD ABHRS President, (ABHRS) ABHRS Board of Directors La Jolla Hair Restoration Medical Center

Senior Member thanatopsis_awry Posted July 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 13, 2008 I'm generally not a fan of this advice, and it does run counter to your "dream" of luscious flowing locks, but....I'd seriously consider buzzing your head. With your hairloss pattern I think you could maintain a good outline, which is key for the buzzed/shaved head. Plus, your head shape seems pretty good for it. Your hairloss looks rather bold in those pics (albeit w/ flash) so I agree that you should do something. Getting a *quality* HT at this point doesn't seem to be too viable, however. ----------- *A Follicles Dying Wish To Clinics* 1 top-down, 1 portrait, 1 side-shot, 1 hairline....4 photos. No flash. That most certainly wasn't the case with the place I went to for a free consultation. My hair isn't that far off from the original poster's, as my hairline is fine, but I have diffuse thinning. They couldn't wait to make my wallet about $6500 lighter and do a transplant. I'm realizing now that maybe I should buy some time and look into propecia for now. Senior Member Arrie Posted July 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 14, 2008 H4R, You have quit the diffuse thinning pattern at such a young age, listen to what Dr. Carman says for now.... I'm not gay or headed that way but you would probably look pretty good with a shaved head for now, down to like a 1 or 2 clip. Looks like you have a pretty good skull for that... Be careful on who you go and see for consultation there are many unethical docs out there and they will operate on you just for your money. Find a doctor that, if anything, has a LONG TERM PLAN. Wait a few years before you get any procedure done. You only live once...
