Regular Member Thanos60 Posted April 1, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted April 1, 2011 Hi, I was wondering if the returning growth rate of shave off existing hair that you had in the area of transplant hairs, is slower after transplant? Should the native hair grow back as the regular rate your hair always grows or will grow back similar to transplanted hair growth timeline? Dr. Glenn Charles
The growth rate should be the same as normal. However, if some of the follicles experience post operative shock they may go into a dormant phase that lasts 3-5 months. There may also be a small percent of shocked hairs that are lost permanantly because they were already programmed to fall out in the near future. Senior Member mattj Posted April 1, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 1, 2011 Basically, shocked native hairs and transplanted grafts are both experiencing trauma causing the follicles to go into the dormant stage, so it's understandable that the loss and subsequent re-growth of those hairs fits within a similar timeframe.
