Concerned if this is 'ok' progress for 6 months

Dear All,

I have had a failed transplant before so am a little paranoid second time round though I did (or think I did) do my research 2nd time round.

Here are 3 pictures for me - before surgery, at the 3 month mark and now at the 6 month mark. This was a strip surgery for 3800 grafts.

Clearly I do have more hair but not sure if that represents the 3800 grafts that were said to be implanted in the front and mid of my scalp. The bald area at the back was not touched due to a lack of grafts in this surgery session.

Grateful for your thoughts if this is decent progress and if I can trouble for a ball-park idea of how much progress is expected between month 6 and 12 i.e. 25% improvement, 35% etc.

Many Thanks

well, there is progress for sure, but when you considering you had 3800 grafts you would think there would be a little more growth, but it is still very early so dont get to worked up, maybe take some more pics i wanna see it from diff angles

Hi Clanvin

I would be concerned, that is not great growth. 6 months is maturity, but it is not early either.

Have you been using Minoxidil on the transplanted area? It may help to kick-start the growing process - it certainly did for me.

Good growth you you in the meantime.

Hard to tell but it looks like you had all the grafts placed over the front half of your head.

That amount of area must be at least 15 x 15 = 225 sq cm giving an average density of about 17 grafts / sq cm.

Presuming it was planted denser at the front, the middle could be as low as 10 grafts /cm sq.

So if your density was not great it is never going to be a thick looking result.

Do you have anymore info like your graft break down?

15x15? no i dont think so, maybe 9x7 or 9x8

Just took a tape measure to my own head. Maybe not 15x15, but could easily be IRO13x14.

Clan,

Maybe I'm alone here, but I wouldn't be concerned yet. At the 6 month mark, your results are only roughly 40% matured, and you have 60% and 6 months worth of growth and maturing ahead of you.

Here's a maturation timeline you may find helpful:

3 months: 10% maturation of implanted grafts

4 months: 20%

5 months: 30%

6 months: 40%

7 months: 50%

8 months: 60%

9 months: 70%

10 months: 80%

11 months: 90%

12 months: 100% maturation

Having said that, it would help us analyze the situation if you let us know how much of the scalp was implanted and at what density.

Look forward to your reply.

Yeah, I disagree with the other posters, I don't think the growth is bad at all.

Agreed.

I think it looks thin due to the density but there's every chance it will improve.

Thanks guys.

I've been on Minoxidil and MSM daily. and yeah my hair density is not great so I know it's not going to be thick but just hope its atleast an 'ok' to 'decent' result.

I'm afraid I dont have any further info on density but am guessing 3800 grafts for me works out to around 6500 hairs?
