Is this a norwood 3? How many grafts needed?

Hi I just have a couple of quick questions..

I’ve posted on the main board a couple of times before about my receded corners and asked people’s opinions about getting a FUE transplant… My plans on taking it any further have kind of stalled for the moment though..

Anyway my brother who is 49 (Nearly 50) sent me a recent picture of himself the other day I was pleasantly surprised that his hair loss wasn’t as bad as I thought..

He used to have long hair which made his corners look very bad, but he has shaved his head and I think it makes his corners look less receded. I know there is no guarantee that I will turn out the same as him, but I feel it is very likely looking at my current state at 29…

Would you say my brother is classic norwood 3 pattern?

If this is how he looks at 50 is it likely that this could be the end of his hair loss?

How much more hair would he have lost than me would you say (in terms of grafts)?

How many Grafts would you say he would need to get back to a NW2? As you can see I did some horrible work in ms paint to see how he might look with a lower hairline.. but I probably totally misplaced It anyway.

Thank you

Ricky

See if you can find a picture of him aged 29.

Probably, without having any other photos to go on.

More likely to continue losing over time. If you look at any male celeb they generally have less hair aged 60 than they did at 50.

Hard one because as well as a receeding hairline he probably lost density as well. 10,000 follicles?

How many Grafts would you say he would need to get back to a NW2?

Maybe 2,500-3,000 to get the NW2 'shape'. Depends on density requirements.

As you can see I did some horrible work in ms paint to see how he might look with a lower hairline.. but I probably totally misplaced It anyway.

Your brother isn't really going to give you an idea of what your future holds with any accuracy. Complete family history will give you an idea of whether you're likely to suffer from mpb, but as it's penetrance is variable and there are many pathways involved in mpb it isn't going to tell you to what degree you will suffer. Are you on any meds? You have a lot of hair to hold on to, I would recommend you do everything you can to keep it and avoid a transplant all together.

Agreed.

2 poor unsatisfactory hair transplants performed in the UK.

Based on vast research and meeting patients, I travelled to see Dr Feller in New York to get repaired.

I agree. You hair is pretty solid for 29. I would try not to sweat it. You look like a NW2, and that is a great place to be.

It would be worth asking (and bugging, if necessary) your brother for photos of himself when he was your age. It might give you a clue as to where your hair loss is headed if he closely resembled you at age 29.

But it wouldn't be certain. Look at other family members too, and in those with MPB, try and find out the age at which they began to lose hair.

Your brother looks to be a NW3 and maybe has some thinning behind the forelock (which could possibly leave an 'island' of hair at the front. Only one angle to go on though.

Your hair looks very solid other than the minor recession. Impossible to say how many grafts he (or you) would need without more photos.

P.S. Excellent hairline design for MS Paint!

I just started using rogaine foam a week ago and this is the first time that I have ever used any kind of meds....

I know Propecia would probably be much more effective but I just cannot bring myself to take the risks that come with it....

Do you think rogaine itself could be enough to keep my hair how it is?

No I don't. Minoxidil is more of a growth stimulator, it doesn't suppress DHT or prevent it from binding the androgen receptors in the hair follicles. I'm not trying to push you on propecia everyone has to weigh the risks and make a decision on their own.

Thanks for your response... You say I a look a norwood 2 but isn't a NW2 the same as mature hairline? I'm sure I'm past that point and I can see shedding
