Regular Member sunshineboy Posted September 15, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted September 15, 2009 I just had a HT 3 days ago. I have to play tennis outside. Can I put sunblock on my grafts? I don't want my grafts to burn. Any advice?
Senior Member Forrest Gump Posted September 15, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted September 15, 2009 I personally wouldn't put anything on my grafts 3 days post-HT. You might also want to check with your doc if playing tennis 3 days post-HT is fine.
Bill - Seemiller
sunshineboy, If you're an active tennis player, your body will be making a lot of jerking and twisting movements not to mention sweating. In my opinion, this could put unnecessary tension and strain on the donor area so early after your procedure. In my opinion, wait at least 2 weeks before playing any active sports and/or applying sunscreen to the scalp. If you will be spending a lot of time outside in general, wear a loose fitting hat for the first 10 days being careful not to touch the grafts with it. After 10 days, you can wear just about any hat that you'd like. Above all else, follow the postoperative instructions provided by your hair transplant surgeon. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member sunshineboy Posted September 16, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 16, 2009 Thanks everyone. I went with a hat and played for a bout an hour or so. I hope I didn't stretch the donor area. It's hard to pass up a sunny day and just sit at home. I'm gunna stay put the rest of the week.

AutoPilot
After spending all that money on your HT, any risk which could jeopardize the end result should be avoided. Only 3 days after your HT, the grafts are not technically secured and scar staples still in place, not to mention possibility of sun burn etc.,. Why would you want to take the risk for a meagre game of tennis. Unless you're Federer or Nadal and there's top prize money to be made. I say be patient and play it safe. Regular Member sunshineboy Posted September 17, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 17, 2009 You guys are right. I'm going to stay inside for the next week or so. Now I have to fight the urge to pick the scabs on my scalp. Yeah, Federer has a nice head of hair!
