Well firstly, thank you for putting your head and hair on the line. Maybe you can contact Killian and ask about his protocol.

I also advice making a studio set up at home and not disturbing it for a year, the lights, angles and height of the chair should all be the same. Take loads of before and after pictures in the same lighting conditions and angles.

Thank you so much, I will try that.

Regarding the photos, I have already put tiny SMP markings in several spots on my scalp, and with some trial & error using a microscope camera I have found a way to get really nice before & after photos, will be happy to share :)

unfortunately, verteporfin is not an easy product to inject "just like that". If you really want to see the 100% benefit of vert, I would recommend going to Dr. Bloxham or Dr. Barghouthi as your surgeon. I'm sure there will be some benefit if you go to a random doctor, but vert is clearly something that needs to be precise.

Oh I see, point well taken. I think I should keep my appointment since it's already set up & planned out with a great surgeon. Will try my best to arrange the verteporfin injection, any results from that would be a bonus :)

Yes. I fly to London once a month for work. I will definitely see him upon my return for the 4+ months assessment.

Hi Dr. Bargouthi, do u think you will be able to see the patient this week for the followup? Have you returned for the 4+ months assessment?

Still nothing major. Again there are a few new hairs, but also some that disappeared. And while the newer photo looks like it has more hairs overall, that might simply be from the camera taking a less blurry photo, making some of the smaller hairs more visible.

Cureseeker, have u seen any changes?

Hi guys,

So i finally met the patient for a follow up review. It has been 5 months since the procedure day. As you recall, we kept things confined to a small area and we did extract that test area more heavily than normal. We then injected Verteporfin in the following order:

Marking 35: 0.4 mg

Marking 36: 0.6 mg

Marking 37: 0.8 mg

Marking 38: 1 mg

I'm sharing the photos here to compare the Day 1 and the 5 months results. I do notice more of these small and tiny hair threads in the injected areas. I must say that they seem to be mostly noted in treated areas and not in other punched areas of the scalp. In some cases they are present in close proximity to the Injected area. I think it is worth following these in the next few months to see whether they thicken up/grow or just regress. The patient should be able to clip his hair again after his engagement party in few weeks :)

What is your assessment of the scarring in the treated areas? Does it look less to you then you would ordinarily expect to see? I know everyone is very excited for hair regeneration potential, but reducing the scarring from FUE surgery would be a massive development in and of itself.

I second this question.

Thank you Dr Bargouthi - have you seen small hairs like the ones outlined regress in any previous Verteporfin tests?

I've been working on this for a while, but honestly a bit disappointed by the results. Compared to Dr. Bloxham's patients and especially Dr. Barghouthi's first patient, this is a lot worse. The pigs started seeing significant improvement at 14 weeks, so I don't think 20 weeks is too short a timeframe either. What are people's thoughts?

Are you comparing to last trial's 5 month update or last update?

5 months too. This is bloxham's 5 month results, for example. Using this as comparison because both are grown out: image.thumb.png.810317682abcbf78f532bd404a7dcb70.png

Thank you Dr Bargouthi for this much anticipated update,

I think the fact that there are little hairs growing right now is a good sign, hopefully they will multiply and grow into robust terminal hairs but I'm confused as to why 5 months in the patient has had so little of them growing out of the treatment areas

Firstly, I would like @DrTBarghouthi for his dedication to the hair loss community.

Apart from 0.4 dose I think these results are fantastic.

Go to page 8 of the thread to see the 4 months result of the last FUE patient and see how similar the hairs look. I think Dr Bloxham's case is more dramatic because it was a far larger wounds so there is more room for improvement.

Looking at the patient post operative, the hairs extracted and what is growing within the test site, I give the estimated the regeneration rate in the sites to be as follows.

0.4 - 14%

0.6 - 38%

0.8 -43%

1 - 43%

Now consider that the other patient continued to improve for at least another 12 months, it is very possible those figures will increase.

Well for example, in the 0.8 area there are 3 areas of clear hair regrowth and there were 7 grafts removed.

maybe someone else can comment, but this isn't clear to me at all.

Let me rephrase it, there are 3 areas where there are clearly hairs growing out of or around the extraction sites within the test site.

If you only want to count thick terminal hairs then the regeneration rate is currently 0%, and we can also considered the four month results of the previous test subject to be 0% at 4 months.

Hi guys. Here is the update after 119 days (17 weeks). I continue to see distinct hairs around or within punched areas in the test areas across all doses. I continue to see clearly scarred areas in the control group. It is hard for me to track every single hair that grew before, some are indistinguishable but I am tracking any that seem within a scar and look distinctly shorter or still newer relative to surrounding hairs. I do think the 0.4 and 0.32 doses are best. If we look st zoomed out pics of both we can appreciate a difference in healing and possibly the contribution of new hairs giving better coverage and appearance in the test areas. The 0.24 dose did not heal as well in my opinion- possibly due to either the dose or because of using tumescent within the actual areas. It may have suppressed the mechanism somehow. I will keep up with the follow ups and would hopefully do a biopsy at 6 months. I think I will now need to test new doses within 0.4 and above or increase the concentration. I also need to find a more uniform injecting technique to establish great uniformity in injections. I will also proceed with injections in the recipient area and a linear scar injection. These are all still in the pipeline.

For comparison this is the results from Dr Bargouthi's first trial at the close to 4 month mark..

Maybe I'm blind, but I feel like I see much thicker, longer hair with pigmentation despite it being a month earlier.

It does seem that way to me .. i'm very confused with the current results but i will say that on hair in the middle on the 1mg dose site looks thicker than the others

you can also see little hairs growing out of the red dots which i'm assuming are the punch sites.. so this is still very exciting, if it follows the pattern of the first study these should start thickening in a few more weeks/months

Hello,

Yes I guess we need to keep an eye on how these small hairs develop. The scarring areas do not seem impressive to me to be honest. I’m not sure yet whether it’s time only or any other variable involved. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot to compare to.
