Medication for Norwood 7

Hi again, everyone.
I have a question about medication for a Norwood 7.  I posted here before and contacted several doctors and was told there's nothing surgical that can be done because I depleted all of my donor area on my scalp.  One doctor suggested oral Minoxdil and Dustateride and said it's worth a try.  I'm not expecting a full head of hair but do you think it would be worth it or will I end up being disappointed and depressed again (something I'm afraid of again and losing hope).

Some of the doctors suggested SMP but I don't like that totally shaved look and makes me look like a thug.   Could SMP work for me if I don't shave it totally down and just fill in my entire bald area and keep the small hairs left?

Thanks so much, everyone.

A few doctors told me there's nothing they could do for me before I contacted Eugenix, who specialise in high Norwood cases. My advice in regards to medication is, especially if you can get it cheap, go for it. I've seen some amazing results with fin and min. You could try those or dutasteride, even shampoo with Nizoral every week. Throw everything at it and maybe something will stick. It's a low risk high reward in regards to meds. My scalp is completely gone (NW6) and surprisingly noticing some regrowth while talking oral fin and min.

Hi there, did you have a procedure(s) done at Eugenix?  I contacted them and they told me there's nothing that can be done because I don't have any donor scalp hairs left  :(
Would you recommend finasteride and minoxidil or should I go with dustasteride and minoxidil?   I'm not expecting anything good but at least it'll give me some hope and I've been turned down too many times by various doctors and have been kicking myself for having hair transplants in the 1990's.   Had I waited until now, I could've had a full head of hair  :(      Thanks for your input.

Yes I have had one procedure at Eugenix but need one more at least. I'm taking fin and min (oral), but I don't know if dua is better or not, I haven't researched it that much. If even Eugenix are telling you that maybe it's time to let it go, but like I said, I can already see regrowth with min and fin together, multivitamins and rosemary oil shampoo and nizoril once a week. The last three probably don't do much or anything, but I'm just trying to attack it with everything I can. If you can get min or fin cheap go for it, what country are you in? For example in India they're both super cheap but here in UK a rather expensive.

I think it's great you can be helped and have gone to Eugenix.  I'm willing to try min & fin and at least it'll give me some hope.   I've gone through a long time doing nothing because I just gave up, so at least I'm trying again.   I'm in Canada and they can be prescribed online by a doctor and delivered.    I think they'll be generic, so it'll cut down on the cost.   Good luck with everything and I'm happy Eugenix can help you.

I gave up for many years too, I started losing my hair at 23 pretty much overnight, that's almost 20 years ago now....time flies, wish I'd have done something about it 10 years ago, but I'd given up by then. Thought I was too far gone, and meds were too expensive for me to try anyway (£30 a month here). I found out about Eugenix and thought f it, haha. Then bought 2 years worth of medication from them for £2-3 a bottle instead of £30. Not sure what my final result will be but anything is better than how it was before.

I hope you can get some regrowth, if you get a lot maybe a HT would be possible with two sessions like me.

Good luck!

Thanks so much.  You sound like myself and I lost most of my hair pretty much overnight as well but I was only 21 and that was 35 years ago and now I'm 56.  I've always thought I was alone.  At least you can do something about it and I hope you get great results that you'll be happy with.   As for myself, I'm not holding my breath but I hope for some growth.  Do you know if some men have unusually a lot of growth with these meds?  I can only hope that for myself!

Yes I've seen a lot of regrown using minoxidil and finestride, especially when used together. But you got to give it at least 6-12 months

I think you should definitely look at trying oral minoxidil. That may bring back some of the previously transplanted hair you have scattered all over. I think you said in another post that you have very little beard and body hair. Is that right? Because that's what you really need.

I was in a very similar situation. I'm 57 years old now. I was losing hair very rapidly in my late teens and early 20s. I had transplants starting at 22, but my hair was falling out faster than it was being replaced and I eventually ran out of donor without ever really having more hair on top than I started with (a little more in some areas, but less in others). I never actually gave up, though. I tried a laser comb and finasteride for years while visiting several HT Drs, but kept getting turned down because there was nothing they could do. Once body hair began to be used that made me become a candidate for some repairs and improvement using beard and chest hair. So far I've had about 6475 beard and chest grafts and while I still don't look like I have anything near a decent amount of hair, I at least do look more normal as if I am experiencing a lot of normal hair loss rather than looking freakish. I'm still working on improving it.

Thanks, I hope I get some regrowth but I'm afraid I won't and then I feel down again.  But at least it gives me something to hope for.

Thanks again.  Yes, our cases seem very similar.  That's great you could use beard and chest hair.  And you're right, I don't have enough beard or body hair and that option's out for me.  When I first heard about BHT, I got so excited because I thought I could use leg and thigh hair and I have a sufficient supply but I contacted one doctor and he said it's not a viable source and I got really down again and I really thought that was my answer.  You look great and I'd be happy with even half of what you've achieved.   It doesn't seem in the cards for me.    Are there any doctors that could do BHT using leg and thigh hair?  I'm going to try oral minoxidil and finasteride (or dustasteride - spelling?)   and just hope for the best.

Arm and leg hair has been used a few times, but as far as I know it's only been used as filler to add a bit of density or for donor restocking when the donor has been destroyed. I would ask Dr Pittella about that and see if he has ever tried it. You may be able to get some old FUT scars filled in with it. But I wouldn't get my hopes up too high for doing much more than minor work with it.

I don't think it would be a good idea

SMP works wonders if you shave your head completely every 1-3 days.  But as soon as your hair starts to grow, it looks weird.

You can also use have SMP if you want to cover your scalp and create the illusion of more density.  But to do so you need to have at least a decent amount of hair.  Any completely bald spot will look weird.

Thanks, I needed to hear that and I guess I was being too hopeful.

You're right and it would look weird.  It's too bad that I just don't like the totally shaved look and I just find it makes me look too harsh but on others, it looks great.

@wallie12345 the problem with body hair is that it has an anagen phase of six months on average. If you are going to use beard hair for example then you are still going to require scalp grafts to blend with it.

Thanks.  I just wish it body hair would be more like scalp hair and then I might have a chance.
