Looking for Advice on a Second Hair Transplant – Crown, Hairline, and General Thickening

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

About 9 years ago, I had 2000 grafts transplanted using the ARTAS method (1200 on the crown and 800 at the front). As I recall, they harvested grafts one by one with a robotic machine, and the surgeon’s nurse replanted them. It took around half a day, and there was no cutting of the skin involved. I think this was a relatively new technique at the time.

The surgeon wasn’t a trichologist but had branched into hair transplants. Since I’m currently working in Hong Kong, there weren’t any specialists available here at the time, and I did a lot of research through forums before settling on the procedure. While 2000 grafts wasn’t a high number, the results were good—especially for the crown, which improved, though it wasn’t perfect. I did have a very very itchy scalp for months, but in the end, it was worth it.

I’m now considering getting more work done for better crown coverage, general thickening on top, and some hairline restoration at the front. Ideally, I’d like to do it all in one go, which I assume means a more extensive graft this time. I’ve been on daily Propecia for the last 9 years and have continued it since the first procedure.

Here’s what I’d like to know:

    1.    What is the latest technique for hair transplants that’s similar to ARTAS (no strip of skin removal)?
    2.    How many grafts can typically be done in a day with this method?
    3.    Does anyone have recommendations for reputable hair transplant clinics in Bangkok? It seems like a good destination with solid doctors and competitive pricing for hair transplants in Southeast Asia.
    4.    I’ve recently purchased some color-depositing shampoo—should I wait until after the procedure to use this?
    5.    Is Aloe Vera the best solution for a very itchy scalp, or should I explore other alternatives?

I’ve attached some before pics from the 2015 procedure, as well as current pics for context.

Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations!
