Senior Member dhuge67 Posted April 17, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2006 How many FUs would you all consider a large procedure? 1,000? 1,500? 2,000? 2,500? 3,000+? I'd probably say that anything 1,500 and above will yield really noticeable results, but I'm curious to know what is considered the "standard" procedure these days for refined follicular unit grafting. 1,614 with Dr. Pistone on 2/3/06 in Marlton, NJ. Senior Member Gorpy Posted April 17, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2006 Well, it depends on the area you need to cover. 1500 might do just fine on a small hairline area, but if you need to cover a NW-5 head, it's gonna take a lot more. Sessions of 3000 or more are very common now. ____________ 2700 Total Grafts w/ Keene 9/28/05 663 one's = 663 1116 two's = 2232 721 three's = 2163 200 four's = 800 Hair Count = 5858 1000 Total Grafts w/Keene 2/08/07 Mostly combined FU's for 2600+ hairs My Photo Album See me at Dr. Keene's Gallery
Senior Member UGLY MAN 4 LIFE Posted April 17, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2006 4000 is fairly standard first session if you have NW4-6.
Senior Member hairbank Posted April 17, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2006 By today's standards, I would consider anything over 3000 grafts a mega session. This has drastically changed over the past couple of years. IMO there is no "standard" procedure because all of us balding types out there lose hair differently . For instance, I was around a NW 4 before my first HT, received 1200 FUT's to fill in on top and front and the change was very noticeable for the better. Now, I still had a huge B spot to contend with so the results weren't acceptable to me and I ended up back in the chair. For anyone NW5 or above, I don't think results would be acceptable without at least receiving 3000 grafts. It totally depends on the stage of loss and what result that particular person is looking for. Many are okay with "some" coverage in the front and let the crown go. Others want decent coverage all over. Senior Member Jotronic Posted April 18, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2006 4500 plus in one session is a "BIG" session. Comparatively though, one could say 1500 plus is a big session. It just really depends on what doc you choose and their particular experience. I think the forum members generally find that 3000 grafts is a big session as that is what most of the docs are doing nowadays when they "push the envelope" . Oddly, only a couple of years ago those same docs were saying that 3000 was ludicrous and unjustified (wide scars, low graft survival, etc.). Ultimately, the graft count average will continue to climb for those that truly understand that stepping outside of their comfort zone can inherently be a good thing.
