What is considered a large session?

How many FUs would you all consider a large procedure?

1,000? 1,500? 2,000? 2,500? 3,000+?

I'd probably say that anything 1,500 and above will yield really noticeable results, but I'm curious to know what is considered the "standard" procedure these days for refined follicular unit grafting.

As long as the rivers flow

As long as the sun shall shine

And the grass will grow

Let me listen, I will learn to speak

The old language

Yes, I yearn to bathe in blue skies

And fall apart from the world of machines

Regain my feet and my pounding heart

Well, it depends on the area you need to cover. 1500 might do just fine on a small hairline area, but if you need to cover a NW-5 head, it's gonna take a lot more. Sessions of 3000 or more are very common now.

By today's standards, I would consider anything over 3000 grafts a mega session. This has drastically changed over the past couple of years.

IMO there is no "standard" procedure because all of us balding types out there lose hair differently icon_wink.gif. For instance, I was around a NW 4 before my first HT, received 1200 FUT's to fill in on top and front and the change was very noticeable for the better. Now, I still had a huge B spot to contend with so the results weren't acceptable to me and I ended up back in the chair.

For anyone NW5 or above, I don't think results would be acceptable without at least receiving 3000 grafts. It totally depends on the stage of loss and what result that particular person is looking for. Many are okay with "some" coverage in the front and let the crown go. Others want decent coverage all over.

1st HT 1-18-05 - 1200 FUT's

2nd HT 2-15-06 - 3886 FUT's Dr. Wong

3rd HT 4-24-08 - 2415 FUT's Dr. Wong

GRAND TOTAL: 7501 GRAFTS

current regimen: 1.25mg finasteride every other day

4500 plus in one session is a "BIG" session. Comparatively though, one could say 1500 plus is a big session. It just really depends on what doc you choose and their particular experience.

I think the forum members generally find that 3000 grafts is a big session as that is what most of the docs are doing nowadays when they "push the envelope" . Oddly, only a couple of years ago those same docs were saying that 3000 was ludicrous and unjustified (wide scars, low graft survival, etc.). Ultimately, the graft count average will continue to climb for those that truly understand that stepping outside of their comfort zone can inherently be a good thing.
