Senior Member pushing 40 Posted February 12, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 12, 2008 I went to the doctor today to get a script for propecia. I stopped taking it last year when I had the txplant because my script ran out and I just kept forgetting to take it for days at a time (I'm bad about that kind of thing). Let me see if I can accurately articulate the wonderful conversation. DOC: "What can I do for you today?" ME: "I need to get a script for propecia." DOC: "Do you know what propecia is for?" ME: "Yes, its to slow down mpb; I was on it last year but my script ran out" She stands up and physically examines my hair!!! DOC: "Well, I'm not a dermatologist and certainly not a specialist in mpb but I don't really understand why you would want to take a medication like that when you're not showing any signs of mpb as far as I can tell." (You can imagine how elated I felt at that moment ) ME: "Well I'm very happy to hear you say that considering how many thousands of dollars it cost me to have all this hair transplanted." DOC: "What?" I then explained the whole process and then she examined my hair again VERY CLOSELY even hunting for the scar which she had a hard time even finding! Doc: "Wow, I seriously cannot believe that. I've seen transplants before and they looked NOTHING like this." I then explained I might start balding in non-txplanted areas like the crown and didn't want that hence the script. She ended up giving me a script for Avodart so my insurance covers it ($3 copay!!) I'm going to take it every other day for a while and see how it goes. Anyway, just thought you guys might enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed living it. I was VERY happy walking out of there!! Senior Member NervousNelly Posted February 12, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 12, 2008 Pushing 40, Great story. There is no doubt that most people and myself included prior to finding this site, believed that transplants are plugs. It sounds to me like you are taking it upon yourself to educate others. I don't blame you and once my results come to fruition I certainly plan on telling more people. It is one of those things that I feel somewhat obligated to do as I know that there are numerous balding guys that would love to know the story. Good on ya. Senior Member nobuzz4me Posted February 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2008 Pushing 40, Very happy for you my friend, BTW - Avodart is for shrinking the prostrate, and works against hairloss. Will your insurance question the use? Some of the copays are picky. Good story, glad your HT has been a success. NoBuzz
Senior Member NervousNelly Posted February 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2008 His insurance question the use?? He is pushing40--actually over 40 from what I understand. Now he is going to be in need of the digit test to justify the Avodart. What some people won't do to save a buck. NN Dr.Cole,1989. ??graftcount Dr. Ron Shapiro. Senior Member its752 Posted February 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2008 Pushing 40, Is Avodart a 5mg. dose? I take Proscar daily and cut a 5mg. tablet into fourths. The comments by the doctor have got to leave you floatin for a while!

Bill - Seemiller
Pushing40, What an awesome story bro! I imagine your hair is looking phenominal by now. Any reason why you are using Avodart rather than Proscar? If insurance is covering the one, it should cover the other. Avodart is more potent and in my opinion, should be considered only if finasteride loses effectiveness. Just my thoughts. Bill
Senior Member thanatopsis_awry Posted February 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2008 That is like a fantasy/dream actually happening...amazing, and congrats! ----------- *A Follicles Dying Wish To Clinics* 1 top-down, 1 portrait, 1 side-shot, 1 hairline....4 photos. Senior Member notgoing2gobald Posted February 13, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2008 pushing40, when do we get to see an updated photo of this "field of dream" mop of yours? that is one hell of a great story/compliment. A doc who tells you that you don't need hair loss meds, because you don't have any hair loss AND that she couldn't detect your transplant!?!?! lucky guy you! Senior Member pushing 40 Posted February 14, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted February 14, 2008 Hey guys. Yes, it was almost surreal. I was scared I was going to suddenly wake up and find out it WAS a dream. And she was about 55, married, and overweight so I'm sure she wasn't just flirting I will post pics on Mar 21; that's my one year mark. I CANNOT believe a year has passed already; it was SO fast. On the Avodart: I basically got Avodart and Proscar mixed up so that's why I asked for it. When I got the pills it said .5mg. I thought "WTF?" The I came back to the site and realized what I had done. Read about it all night and decided to just try it every other day to see how goes. If not, I'll just go to proscar or back to propecia. I really don't want to lose any more hair. I've always had thin fine hair AND a serious whorl pattern back there that has always shown scalp anyway so if it starts falling out back there it will be noticeable pretty quickly. That'll suck. Nonetheless, I am still VERY happy with having done this. Thrilled. I had a suit on the other day and DAMN do I look better in a suit with hair than I did with that half balding buzzed head before. Senior Member notgoing2gobald Posted February 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 14, 2008 pushing40---"I basically got Avodart and Proscar mixed up"...I guess you had a senior moment, huh 40? I think the last time I saw your majestic mop was at around the 6 month mark or so. Has it thickened up even more? can you spike it up if you want to? I can't believe it has almost been a year already either. I joined this site only a few months after your ht. Damn, I could of had more hair to style by now too. Senior Member NervousNelly Posted February 14, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted February 14, 2008 If she gave you the prostate exam with her middle finger then you can conclude that she was flirting.
